16MAY
This one has been around for awhile, but bears re-posting.
Be wary of email or phone calls asking you to dial a number with an area codes of 809, 284 or 876.
Some companies in the British Virgin Islands have been set up to try to take money from unsuspecting people using the area codes of 809, 284 or 876. Some people have been billed as much as $2,400 per minute. Unlike 900 numbers, these numbers do not warn the caller of these charges.
The scam begins when these companies send email or make phone calls telling a person to call about the death of a relative, overdue bills, prize notifications, etc.
