Hi Jeannette -

Without knowing more information, such as what operating system you are running, and specific error codes being generated by the operation, I will have a bit of trouble figuring this one out.

Some of the items you mentioned in your original post may signal infection by malware of some sort.

I would suggest that you perform a thorough scan with the antivirus package of your choice, as well as scanning/disinfection with an anti-spyware package like ad-aware or spybot search & destroy.

You may also wish to try "rolling back" your system to a previous point in time, by performing a system restore. Instructions for this can be found here.

Please note that if you perform a system restore, anything you installed *after* the point of restore will need to be re-installed.

Hope this helps,

Derek

Hi Jeannette -

Have you checked for any changed policies? Policies are one way
malware, or just someone playing a prank, can deny you access to
specific areas or features.

Go to START > RUN > gpedit.msc

Check administrative templates > Windows components > Internet Explorer.

The directives on the right pane. they should all be "Not configured."
