CenturyLink Sucks

Report Back to Forum Back to All Forums

I have been having some issues with CenturyLink. I sent this to CenturyLink this morning:

-----------------------------------------
Last week, I disconnected my voice service for two reasons:

  • because CenturyLink failed to keep my private information private on multiple occasions.
  • tired of receiving 20 or more calls per day from telemarketers, charities, and market surveys.

In the state of Washington, the law requires all locations to have 911 service, therefore, I still have a phone connected to the jack in the wall. I can't call out, except for 911 emergencies. Nobody can call in, since I have no phone number.

Imagine my surprise when the phone on the wall rings, and I receive a call from a telemarketer at 8:20 this morning (1/19/2014). Why are telemarketers still able to call me, even though my phone number no longer exists? Is this another way for CenturyLink to make money off me without charging me directly? Did you assign a "secret" phone number to my line, and then hand out that number to telemarketers ?

Thank you for yourrecent e-mail inquiry to CenturyLink.
I have submitted your information to be removed from our CenturyLink telemarketing lists. Please know that it may take 30 to 60 days from the date of your request for calls to cease. We appreciate your patience and understanding during the processing time. This option will not, however, stop telemarketing for any other company.
To block other companies, you should register with the National Do Not Call Registry at 1-888-382-1222 or on-line at http://www.donotcall.gov/. Your number will remain on the National Do-Not-Call Registry for five years. You may re-enter your number after five years have passed and you may remove your name from the list at any time. The Do-Not-Call Registry will not prevent all unwanted calls. It does not cover the following:
Calls from organizations with which you have established a business relationship
Calls for which you have given prior written consent
Calls which are not commercial or do not include unsolicited advertisements
Calls by or on behalf of tax-exempt non-profit organizations
CenturyLink appreciates your business and values youas a customer. Our goal is to provide you with excellent service. If you needfurther assistance, please visit us online at http://www.centurylink.com/customerservicefor a variety of customer service options.

Sincerely,
Temeriel

Notice anything weird about this ? He has pasted the script text in here saying that he will remove my number from telemarketing lists. WHAT PHONE NUMBER ? I don't have a phone number.
