Replacing laptop hard drive

Report Back to Forum Back to All Forums

The hard drive in a co-worker's HP Pavillion ze4900 laptop has failed, and I'm looking into getting a replacement drive for it. The drive that failed was a Seagate ST94019A 40GB drive. Does the laptop need that specific brand hard drive or is it safe to use a mobile hard drive from a different brand?

I found that the old hard drive was an ATA/100 so we made sure the replacement drive was the same type. I installed it in the laptop and it works fine.

Hi Mikel,

The ST94019A is a 2.5" IDE drive, so any similiar capacity IDE drive should work in your co-workers laptop.
