If you are looking to free yourself from Microsoft`s IM agent, you can do the following:

Bring up Outlook Express and select Options from the Tools menu. Locate and un-check the box that reads "Enable instant messaging..."

Then run the following command to uninstall Messenger:RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Now to speed up the load times for Internet Explorer and Outlook Express, drop their splash screens by bringing up the Group Policy Editor with the following command:

gpedit.msc

and under Computer Configuration, Administrative Templates, Windows Components, Internet Explorer, set to "Enabled" the option to "Disable showing the splash screen."
