How can I determine the amount of free space in my Information Store databases?

With Microsoft Exchange Server version 5.5, Service Pack 1, during the Information Store maintenance, the service writes out an event to the Windows NT Event Log indicating the amount of free space available in the private or public databases. Using this event, you can determine whether you should perform an offline defragmentation of the Information Store database files (PRIV.EDB and PUB.EDB) to recover the free disk space.

Following is an example of this event

* Event ID: 1221

* Source: MSExchangeIS Private

* Type: Information

* Category: General

* Description:

The database has 95 megabytes of free space after online defragmentation has terminated.
